J. Weitz(1932- ) Skylab and Space Shuttle astronaut Biographical Data Born July 25, 1932, in Erie, Pennsylvania Married Suzanne M. Berry Education High School Harborcreek
(Pennsylvania) High School Military Career Received his commission as an ensign through the NROTC program at Pennsylvania State University. Served one year at sea aboard a destroyer. Awarded his wings in September 1956. NASA Career Selected as an astronaut in 1966. Pilot on Skylab II mission, May 25-June 22, 1973. During this mission he logged 2 hours and 11 minutes in extravehicular activities, a new record. Spacecraft commander on STS-6, the maiden voyage of the Orbiter Challenger, April 4-9, 1983. Served as Deputy Director of the Johnson Space Center until he retired from NASA in May 1994.
