Cesar Estrada Chavez
founded the United Farm Workers in 1966. In 1968,
he called for a nationwide boycott of California
table grape growers and organized a campaign
aimed at informing the general public about the
plight of migrant farmworkers. |
Lech
Walesa led a strike at the shipyard
in Gdansk, Poland, that eventually spread over
much the country and resulted in the formation of
the Solidarity Union. He received the Nobel Peace
Prize for his work in 1983, and served as
President of Poland from 1990 to 1995. |
