Carolina Parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis) The only parrot species indigenous to the United States once ranged from the Ohio Valley to the Gulf of Mexico, but it was hunted to extinction. The last Carolina parakeet was killed in 1904; the last captive specimen died in 1918.
