Epiphany
marks the last day of the Feast of the Nativity,
which in the church calendar continues for twelve
days after Christmas. It commemorates the
manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles through
the visit of the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem. |
John Raleigh
Mott was one of the world's leading
Protestant missionary statesmen, and played a
major role in creation of the World Council of
Churches. As general secretary of the American
YMCA, he put himself in charge of running
military canteens in the U.S. and France during
World War I. He was rewarded for all his work
with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1946. |
Robert
Morrison became the first Protestant
missionary to China in 1807, and spent 26 years
teaching Christianity to the Chinese using their
own language, translating the Bible and other
Christian works into Chinese, and writing volumes
of other works in both Chinese and English. |
