Plutarch
is believed to have been responsible for at least
227 books and treatises of various lengths. Of
these his Morals and Parallel Lives
are the best known. Parallel Lives was
for centuries the main source of knowledge of the
Greco-Roman world. |
Ovid
considered Metamorphoses to be his
greatest work. It is a narrative poem that
includes more than 200 tales taken from the
favorite legends and myths of the ancient world,
arranged in chronological order from the creation
of the world to Julius Caesar. |
