King Ferdinand V,
along with his Queen, Isabella, united many of
the kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula to create
most of what is now known as Spain. During his
reign Christopher Columbus "discovered"
the New World, and Spain's influence spread
across the Atlantic Ocean. |
Queen Isabella
became Queen of Castile in 1474 and, by virtue of
her marriage to Ferdinand V, helped create what
is now Spain. Although her husband could have
ruled over Castile by virtue of that same
marriage, he recognized Isabella's abilities and
"allowed" her to rule Castile
independently. |
