General Information.Warsaw: General Information Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland. The city is situated on the Vistula River, about 160 miles from the Baltic Sea, covers an area of about 200 square miles, and has a population of 1,716,855. Called Warszawa by Poles, the city was named for Warsz, a 12th/13th century nobleman who owned a village on the site.
