History.
Anwar al-SadatAnwar al-Sadat was part of the military coup that overthrew King Faruk in 1952. He became President upon the death of Nasser in 1970, and while serving in that capacity helped bring peace between Egypt and Israel for the first time in history. He was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978, with Israeli Premier Menachem Begin.
