Greeting Cards, Postcards, Invitations, Book
Jackets, Etc.
Esther Allen Howland
used what she knew of her family's stationery
business to build a successful business creating
hand-made valentines that sold for as much as $5
to $10 each, in 1847.
Exaggerated Postcards
were extremely popular in the early 1900s. They
were known for using trick photography to create
such images as a farmer riding a grasshopper, and
produce so big that it dwarfed houses.
