Kentucky 1774 James Harrod
established the first permanent white settlement
at Harrodsburg. 1792 Kentucky became the
15th state. |
 Daniel Boone
explored much of present-day Kentucky, helped
blaze the Wilderness Road, a trail through the
Cumberland Gap, and led a group of settlers into
the area. |

Company was formed in 1774 to
exploit and colonize the area that now comprises
most of Kentucky and Tennessee. |
 Dr. John Walker
was one of the early explorers of southeastern
Kentucky. It was he who discovered the Cumberland
Gap. |
