Timbers, fought on August 20, 1794,
is considered to have been one of the most
significant battles ever fought on American soil.
Had the U.S. lost the battle much of what we now
know as Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan could very
well be part of Canada instead of the United
Putnam was one of the founders of
the Ohio Company of Associates, which established
the first permanent American settlement in Ohio
at what is now Marietta on April 17, 1788.
