saved Berlin, Germany, from disaster twice during
his career -- once when he initiated the Berlin
Airlift in response to the Soviet Union's
blockade of the city; and again soon after the
Berlin Wall went up, when he literally created an
armed stand-off at a checkpoint. |
Benjamin Oliver Davis

George Catlett
Marshall was the first professional
soldier to be named Secretary of State, in which
capacity he developed the economic recovery plan
