| Major Battles of the
Civil War |
The War in
the East The
Eastern front stretched east of the Appalachian
Mountains to the Atlantic Coast. |
The War in the West
In the Western theater of the war,
the North struck early and hard in order to seize
and control the Mississippi River. Success would
split the Confederacy into two parts. |
The
Battle of Mine
Creek, October 25, 1864 was fought
near the town of Trading Post, Kansas. One of the
largest cavalry engagements of the entire war,
the battle ended Confederate General Sterling
Price's attempt to capture Missouri for the
Confederacy, and proved to be the last major
engagement of the War in the West. |
