The Pequot
War, fought in 1637, was the first
major war between whites and Indians pitted the
Massachusetts Bay Colony against the Pequot. |
The
Battle of the
Little Bighorn, fought
June25-26,1876, is commonly known as
"Custer's Last Stand" because it was
here that General George A. Custer and about 210
of his men were killed by a combined force of
Lakota and Northern Cheyenne. |
Comanche
had survived being wounded three times before
being ridden into the Battle of the Little
Bighorn. And, although was not the only horse to
survive that battle, he was by far the most
famous one. |
Massacre at
Wounded Knee On December 30, 1890,
about 300 Sioux warriors, women, and children
were killed by soldiers while awaiting removal to
a reservation. |
